CM Punk wasn’t holding back in his thoughts on Eric Bischoff as the two have differing opinions on whether or not wrestling still has casual fans.
During the AEW Full Gear post-show media scrum, Punk stated that he no longer believes there are any casual fans of wrestling, but instead everyone is a hardcore fan. Bischoff recently slammed Punk during a recent episode of Strictly Business for thinking that and claimed that Punk doesn’t belong in the TV business if he thinks that’s true.
Punk responded to a clip of Bischoff discussing his belief that AEW needs better storylines, which will lead to growth in their TV ratings, as if they stop booking for the small segment of the audience, they will get casual fans to watch their programming. .
Punk wrote: “Wrestling Twitter needs to stop amplifying all the old bad faith heads and bad sideshow nonsense. They had their moment in the sun. Let them die in the dark with their ego podcasts. Quote me.
AEW was built on fan support even before they had a television deal as they were looking for an alternative to WWE and Tony Khan has tried to give them the matches they want.
Punk joined the promotion last August after being away from the wrestling business for 7 years. He is scheduled to challenge “Hangman” Adam Page for the AEW World Heavyweight Title at Double Or Nothing later this month.
