Tony Khan opens up about what he looks for when he brings in talent to AEW

On this week’s “Swerve City” podcast, Tony Khan discussed what he looks for when bringing in talent.

“Well, there are many things. First of all, when you look at his body of work, sometimes you have athletes, like Satnam Singh is a great example or Jade Cargill, where they had no previous experience in professional wrestling, but they were great athletes, actually. both played basketball at a high level. I thought it was worth a gamble,” she began.

“Usually we don’t get people who don’t have a lot of prior wrestling experience. Here we do not train fighters from scratch. It is a different business model. There are a lot of great people, but for us, we pick our spots when it comes down to it, because we don’t care as much about centralized training throughout the week.”

“We gather like locusts in a different city every week and then we split up. I think for us, having a lot of prior wrestling experience is really important. So, for example, Swerve is someone who I watched wrestle in different promotions and I really loved your stuff. I had seen many of your matches before you entered. Some other people might not be as experienced as you and might not have been as successful, or they might not really be as advanced or developed or as good. There are other people who are difficult to locate.”
